WHY FRINGES

Ancient Hebrew Israelites wore fringes, also called borders or tassels, because it was a commandment from the Most High.

The purpose was spiritual and practical: the fringes were a visible reminder to keep the commandments and not follow after their own heart and eyes.

Numbers 15:38–40 KJV says:

“Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:
And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them…”

Deuteronomy 22:12 KJV also says:

“Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.”

So the fringes served several purposes:

They reminded Israel to remember and obey the commandments.

They marked Israel as a set-apart people with a covenant responsibility.

The blue ribband/thread represented obedience, holiness, and heavenly order.

They were worn on the borders or corners of the garment, making the reminder visible in everyday life.

In simple terms, fringes were like a daily spiritual reminder: every time an Israelite saw them, they were reminded to walk righteously and keep the laws of the Most High.
